On the last day of the Alliance season, Sheringham finished very strongly thanks to a 201
run battering of Norwich A at Ingham.
After winning the toss on a reliable Ingham wicket, Sheringham skipper J Wright opted to
bat first, going against the seasonal plan of bowling first, which generally saw
Sheringham chasing a gettable score. However, the lobsters set about posting a huge total
against an 8 man opposition, and despite some good tight bowling from Robinson at the
start, the opening pair of C Wright and D King began patiently. Opening bowler Gyton
removed Wright (4) caught behind, bringing Tuckett to the crease, in his last appearance
for the lobsters before his return to the West Indies. He looked like a man on a mission,
and dispatched any loose bowling to the boundary, and quickly moved on past 50, he and
King building a steady but quick partnership. King also passed the 50 mark and at half
way, the lobsters looked in total control at 142 for 1. With Tuckett taking the main brunt
of the bowling, the pair added more useful runs and it looked like nothing could stop
them, as they both continued to pile the runs on. Tuckett edged closer to a deserved ton,
a landmark which he comfortably passed earning him his 4th hundred of the season. He
didnt stop their, though, as the boundaries continued to flow and a depleted Norwich
A, already relegated didnt know what to do. King looked on for a ton as well,
however the returning pace of Robinson saw the 16yr old finish up bowled for 83 in what is
believed to be a record stand for the club of 258 for the second wicket. Tuckett fell soon
after for a blistering 151, and after loosing another wicket quickly, Sheringham decided
to declare on 282 for 4.
Giving themselves 55 overs to bowl the opposition out, Sheringham began well, with Payne
being dismissed early on thanks to a good catch by C Wright behind the stumps off Neave
(2-7) for 2. Some tighter Sheringham bowling then saw another wicket fall, with Suta the
next to go, this time bowled by Neave for 1. Smith was unlucky not to claim an LBW, as
Robinson capitalised on this to move his score along nicely, playing some powerful offside
strokes. He and the fortuitous A Roberts added 31 to move Norwich A onto 43 before
Robinson was beautifully bowled by J Wright for 30. Roberts soon followed suit, and
Norwich were in dire straights once again at 46 for 4. Some good bowling by 12yr old J
Taylor tied down the batsmen, however some lusty blows from Dwyer and especially P Borrett
added some respectability to the scoreline. The pair added another useful partnership this
time for 34 but once again, J Wright proved the downfall of the batsman with some superb
line and length bowling. He claimed the wicket of Dwyer (12) caught behind, and then the
vital wicket of Borrett, who was well caught by Balluza for 26. Wright (5-13) ended up
with season best figures as he finished off the tail in quick time, thanks to a good sharp
catch by Gilbert to remove Gyton seeing Sheringham ease home by 201 runs and claimed 25
points in the process, meaning they finish a rather disappointing 6th in the Alliance
Division 3. However this game meant the season comes to an end, and despite such high
hopes at the start of the season, Sheringham players can learn from this and take it into
next year, where they will again hope to be pushing for promotion.

SHERINGHAM EVENING W.I.
Our September meeting was a Members Evening, and after business had been
kept to a minimum, the President, Marian Clark, handed over to eight ladies, most of them
newer members, who entertained us with a glittering and lively review.
We were taken back to the glamour days of Astaire and Rogers, as Debra, Jean and
Pauline-complete with gold and silver ''toppers,'' white ties, sparkling waistcoats and
''tails''-danced to musical numbers of that time-''Top Hat,'' ''Stepping Out'' and ''Dance
the Night Away'' which Debra had choreographed.
Margaret, Sue and Pauline11 chose their favourite poems to read, and Pam gave a reading of
the Pam Ayres monologue ''Wonderbra.'' An emotional rendering of ''The Bridesmaid'' sung
by Debra, with Linda at the piano, ended the show and left the rest of us wanting more.
The group provided refreshments to round off the evening, and were warmly thanked by
Marian. Roll on the next Members Evening!!.

Be a Hero Event Opens Eyes to
Volunteering
Ever wondered about volunteering? Think you might have an hour or two to
give, but are not sure how you can help? Or perhaps you are a volunteer who would like an
opportunity to meet other like minded individuals locally? North Norfolk District Council,
Norwich and Norfolk Voluntary Services and BREAK Charity have come together to highlight,
celebrate and reward the work of volunteers in North Norfolk in a Be a Hero
Volunteer Fair at Sheringham High School on Saturday 29 October from 10am to 2pm, as part
of the 2005 Year of The Volunteer celebrations.
For those interested in finding out more about volunteering and to give a flavour of the
opportunities available, a range of interactive workshops will be held throughout the day
and visitors will be able to find out more from organisations exhibiting at the event. We
will also be awarding volunteers from across the county who are Local Heroes
providing help and support and making a valuable contribution to their local
communities. Come along and join us for this great event and see why so many people take
up volunteering every year!
This event is completely free, and refreshments and a free prize draw will be available on
the day. For more information please call Kate Sullivan on 01263 516052.
