TRICK OR TREAT
Sheringham Baptist Church is repeating last year's "Trick or
Treat" initiative in Sheringham during the run-up to Halloween. In association
with Norfolk Police they have produced 'no trick or treat' posters which will made
available, free of charge, to local residents, and they intend to promote the leaflets in
schools, churches and community groups. The A5 size posters can be displayed in the
homes of those who do not wish to be targeted by "trick or treaters" - similar
to the 'no salesmen' signs you often see.
Daniel Beckett, youth worker at Sheringham Baptist Church, said "The reality is that
'Trick or Treat' has increasingly become something which causes distress to the elderly,
has sometimes led to vandalism and puts unsupervised children at risk. As Christians
we feel it is wrong to focus on the darker and more sinister aspects of spirituality.
With this in mind we hope to encourage people of all ages to consider alternative
activities to those traditionally undertaken at Halloween".
