HOLWAY ROAD CROSSING GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR CHRISTMAS

Liberal Democrat MP Norman Lamb and Sheringham County Councillor Brian Hannah have welcomed the news that a proposed crossing for Holway Road, Sheringham, will be installed by the end of the year.   "Parents in Sheringham have raised with us on several occasions their concerns about safety on the road," said Norman Lamb.  "At the beginning and end of the school day, there are often problems with getting children to cross the road safely.  Many elderly people also have problems crossing this busy road."   "I am delighted that the crossing will soon be installed," said Liberal Democrat Brian Hannah. "Hopefully, the problems that local people experience every day will be alleviated."    Councillor Hannah has been working with the 3 schools in Sheringham on a Safer Schools travel plan as part of a Government initiative to encourage school travel using means of transport other than the car.

BULB PLANTING

Girls and boys from Sheringham and Beeston Regis Sea Scout Group recently took part in the National 'Cheeky Monkey's Marathon Challenge' to raise much needed funds for both the Charity Children with Leukaemia and their Scout Group.   Members of the two Beaver Colonies, Cub Pack and two Scout Troops were joined by parents, the Mayor of Sheringham and members of Sheringham in Bloom planting over 1,700 bulbs along the driveway leading to the Town's Cemetery in Weybourne Road.

The event was organised by Assistant Beaver Scout Leader, Maureen Haslam and despite a heavy downpour mid way though the proceedings, everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and raised over £500 in the process.  The picture shows The Mayor of Sheringham planting the first bulb, surrounded by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.   John Paine, Group Scout Leader
