SOCIETY SUPPORTS LAMS

When a local charity needed help to provide a relaxing, social environment, whose calming influence was offered? Norwich and Peterborough Building Society's (N&P), of course! Brian Turner, treasurer at Life and Multiple Sclerosis (LAMS), contacted staff at N&P's Sheringham branch to see if they could help with the facilities on offer at the LAMS Day Centre. Caroline Barrett, manager of N&P's branch at 29 High Street, offered to buy the group a new hot water urn and a CD player. LAMS was established in January this year. Currently approximately 30 members meet every Monday, excluding bank holidays, at St Joseph's, from 10am-3pm. The organisation provides a Day Centre for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the north Norfolk region. The Centre offers social, practical and physical benefits to visitors including needlework, painting, craftwork, group physiotherapy and individual massage therapy, games, reading and socialising with friends. The hot water urn will be used to provide members with a hot drink during their stay and the CD player will be used to play relaxing backgrownd music. Caroline went to the Day Centre to see what was on offer. She said: "I'm delighted we were able to help. It's important that people with MS have somewhere they can go to receive the level of support LAMS offers." Brian said: "We're very grateful to Caroline and her team at N&P for their kind gifts. It's the small things in life that can make all the difference. Having relaxing music to listen to while receiving physical therapy and a nice hot cup of tea really puts members at ease."

SHORT FILMS WANTED

Sheringham Little Theatre is holding a Celebrating Community week in February 2006.  It’s grown out of the theatre history exhibition and documentary that many of you enjoyed last May but this time it’s throwing its net much wider.   There are going to be three evenings of short films which is hoped will reflect the life of people who live here.  It doesn’t have to be about Sheringham itself but can be about any of the surrounding region.

The theatre is hoping for films or videos of carnival, village fetes, fairs, charity events, the lifeboat going out - anything in fact which shows a group of people working or playing together.  As long as you think that it will be of interest to an audience that might not know a single person involved then it can be considered.  It should be approximately 10 minutes long and submitted as a DVD. The best will be chosen to be shown on the big screen during that week.

If you know anyone who’s good at home videos encourage them to send their DVD to the Little Theatre by January 3 together with a stamped self addressed envelope so that they can all be safely returned afterwards.  All whose films have been chosen will be informed as to when they will be shown.
