So where are we regarding Tesco? Well I believe that if nothing is done then
Tesco will disappear and we will be the losers. I propose to set up a group to
establish how much support there is in Sheringham and the outlying areas for a Tesco.
This really is our last chance to do something about it. The anti Tesco
Brigade have had their say now it is our turn. Some of the issues that I have felt
important are: more opportunity for jobs in our town, the chance for local people to have
choice and save on costs, so where does this leave our shops in the town, I believe some
will be affected but look at Blyth & Wright, Crowes, Starlings, Bertram Watts and our
bakers to name a few, these are fantastic shops and they will always be popular and with
three hours free parking at Tesco it will open the town up for all those others that
normally shop in other towns. A large majority of the people in Sheringham do their
main shop elsewhere and still on a Saturday I still queue for my bread and meat. So
what about Budgens, and the Co-op they hopefully will become more competitive and the
local people who use them for everyday bits and pieces as they do now will also be better
off. As for Nobby's even Tesco's couldn't compare with some of his fabulous offers.
