    GLYN UNVEILS PLAQUE

The Health Centre has recently undergone a three-year, £2.3 million programme of improvements designed to improve the services for Sheringham's population.   The official opening of the new building took place on Friday 18th November, Glyn Chestney was the guest of honour to officially open the building by unveiling a commemorative plaque.  Glyn made a nice speach thanking all the staff and everyone else for attending the event.

Present at the opening was Sheringham's oldest patient, 103 year old Beryl Tovey, present and past staff and partners, patients of the practice, health representatives, local community leaders and people involved in the development project.

THE FLOWER CENTRE CHANGES OWNERSHIP

Sheila and Helen Parrish would like to announce their retirement from the Flower Centre, Sheringham and Cromer and to thank all their valued and loyal customers over the last 33 years of trading. We would also like to thank our wonderful staff, without whom, the shops would not have been the success they are today. Although we have retired from the business, the Flower Centres are continuing as before, under the new Proprietors Husband and Wife team, Paul Horsefield and Mary Pembleton, who look forward to meeting you and giving you the same excellent standard of personal service.

SHERINGHAM & CROMER ROUND TABLE

Over a hundred people attended the annual Sheringham & Cromer Round Table senior citizens party held at Sheringham High School.  Entertainment was provided by Ladies Circle with a tribute to the 200th anniversary of the death of Admiral Nelson, 41 Club (Ex Tablers) with a routine to the music celebrating V E Day and the Sheringham Brownies with a two dances to the music of the 2nd World War. Round Table also provided two sketches, with a take off of Stars in their Eyes and a cheeky dance to the theme of Dads Army.  The finale of the evening was provided by Mark Hudson and his dancers who with some audience participation provided many smiles with his tongue in cheek routine.

The party is one of the highlights of the Round Table year after some months of preparation, providing Tablers a chance to show off some hidden talent. Round Table Chairman Gary Fowkes in his closing speech thanked all the acts that had contributed to the entertainment of the evening, Ladies Circle for their superb buffet of homemade sandwiches and cakes, but in particular the Smith brothers, Stuart for organising the logistics of the evening and Bernard for the production of the show.

Sheringham & Cromer Round Table raise the monies required for the evening including transport to and from the venue by the Christmas Street collections, the next one of which is at Cromer on Saturday December 10th and from a generous donation from the Sheringham Social Services League.

Sheringham & Cromer Round Table meets the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of every month and undertake a variety of activities which amongst others include sport, visits and speakers. Mrs Blyth's letter in @ Sheringham's Issue No. 56 stating that the proposed Tesco superstore would have three hours car parking is wrong.  The Tesco planning application currently lodged with the NNDC and available for public scrutiny - has allowance for only two-hours car parking.  If Mrs Blyth plans to run a pro-Tesco campaign it might be useful if she gets her facts right.  She has also stated recently in the local press that SCAMROD have been 'intimidating' people, a comment that my daughter who is a solicitor has reliably informed me is libellous and could if SCAMROD so wished, see her in the court of law. Although I am not a member myself, SCAMROD seem to be well-informed, well-organised, a well-behaved campaign group who have never intimidated anyone but simply seek to promote debate on a very important issue known to be affecting market town high streets all over Britain.  I would therefore, as a seasoned observer of this debate, suggest that Mrs Blyth treads very carefully in future, because with anymore gaffs it might be hard to take her and her campaign seriously.  Irene Christie
