READER'S LETTERS
Dear @Sheringham

Looks as if the Government plans to get rid of fire stations around England as part of its modernisation plans.

With luck, this will include the one near Sheringham cross-roads and we shall then get the Supermarket of Our Dreams on the site instead.

Hopefully it will sell everything we want and we won't need to go anywhere else.

LATEST NEWS

Extract from letter from Tony Windross to Bryan Pigott 9th January 2003

"The bottom line is that in order to continue, the Parish Hall income needs to rise from the current £5000 to £12500 (£6000 annual running costs plus £6500 for each of the next 3 years). If this can be done the hall can continue; if it can't it won't. The Bowls Club is obviously the main user of the Hall, and as the group which has expressed itself most forcefully over the past few months, it is to the Bowls Club that I must look for the bulk, if not all of the extra funding, not least because this level of rent increases is likely to mean that some of the other hirers will go elsewhere.

(a) The worst case scenario is that all the other users go elsewhere, which means that the Bowls Club will need to increase their contribution from the present £2400 to £12500 a 500% increase.

(b) If none of the other users go elsewhere the Bowls Club will be expected simply to pay the across-the-board rise of some 250%, from £2400 to £6000.

(c) This might be further reduced if those members of the local community who expressed their horror at the loss of the Parish Hall were prepared, perhaps, to 'sponsor' sessions of the Bowls Club and other hiring occasions."
