After Christmas! |
You can have something to look
forward to after the festivities and hangovers. Brighten up the Dark Ages of January and
February by taking yourself and maybe a friend to one of the Adult Education classes on
offer. A new programme for the spring and summer terms is now available, with daytime and
evening courses in Sheringham, Holt, Cromer and surrounding villages. Here are just a few:
Drawing and Painting at Upper Sheringham on Thursday mornings with Bob Larking - a class
for those who want to really explore their potential and develop their skills. Bob also
teaches landscape painting in the summer. Making Marks at West Runton on Thursday
afternoons with Peter Kavanagh - a structured drawing and painting class for beginners.
Peter is a well-known local artist and also teaches a follow-on class, Making More Marks,
as well as Creative Writing for Children's Books, and his own life drawing classes and
weekend workshops. Life Drawing Days and a new Portrait Workshop at Sharrington with Sue
Riley - a chance to do a full day's drawing. Sue, an artist and sculptor, also teaches a
weekly class at Sharrington. Stained Glass at High Kelling and Sheringham with Chris White
- the beginner's course was so successful last term that additional classes are now
arranged. Indian Head Massage at Cromer with Carol Shelton - again this was such a popular
course that more will be put on next term. Local History - Oh, I do like to be beside the
seaside! The making of Norfolk (1700 - present) at Cromer - this is a new course, which
should be interesting and sounds fun too. Introduction to British Sign Language at Cromer
- a free taster session followed by a 10-week course, for those who'd like to find out
what it's like and learn a bit before perhaps progressing to an accredited course later in
the year. German for Complete Beginners at Cromer - a new class for all those keen on
twinning or anyone considering a trip to Germany. Flamenco Dancing at Sheringham with Tani
Montino - with live guitarist! Beginners or near beginners so don't be afraid - come and
join in. Yoga - all levels - lots of classes! Pure Silk Japanese Style Embroidery at Upper
Sheringham with Jane Playford - a day workshop for anyone who'd like to learn about and
try this beautiful and colourful form of decoration. Jane teaches weekly upholstery
classes and a whole range of embroidery day courses. Sashiko Quilting at Sheringham with
Sally Holman - make a bag using white Sashiko thread on dark blue fabric. Sally is a
nationally known textile artist and teaches many weekly classes as well as day workshops
and short courses on various aspects of patchwork, quilting and appliqué.
There are lots more courses of varying lengths on art, crafts, English and maths skills,
accounting, gardening, health and well-being, higher education, humanities, computing,
languages, performing arts, personal development, photography, sports, swimming and
textile arts. Look for the lilac leaflet, which will be available after Christmas at
libraries, surgeries, and village shops - wherever we can get anyone to put them!
