READERS LETTER

On Tuesday May 8th I attended the Carnival Queen Selection Dance shown at the Crown in Sheringham.  Young people had a really good time and appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves.  There was a super atmosphere with thirteen young ladies participating in the Queens Selection.  Well done, Sam, Nicola and Stacy.   During the whole of the pleasant evening I observed no bad behaviour or aggression among the young people who I feel were a credit to Sheringham and area.  Well done.   Let's hope some of these young people will be Sheringham's Carnivals' future.

CALLING THE WOODHOUSE FAMILY

I wonder if any of your readers would be able to help me?  My father was born in Sheringham and I'm currently trying to find out any info I can abut his family and if there are any relatives still in Sheringham or the area.

My father's name is David Woodhouse. (Born 1940) only son of Dorothy the Valentine Woodhouse Valentine (born 1910) is the youngest of 11 children Robert and Hannah Woodhouse also of Sheringham.  The Woodhouse family of Sheringham area goes back hundreds of years.

Valentine and family were evacuated from their home Ty Clywd at Beeston Regis in 1940 due to the threat of invasion.  They lived in Oxford where Valentine died in 1945, he's buried at St marks Beeston Regis church.  My gran and father moved back to the house for a while and then she sold it and moved back to Oxford.

I would love to hear from any one whom is related to this line of Woodhouses' or any one who knew of the family, especially of any photos.  Robert died in 1947 he was a window cleaner in Sheringham.  My father was only seven when his grandfather died and didn't really know him.  We lost touch with the Woodhouse side of the family after the war and my father is keen to establish contact again with anyone in the area.
Thank you very much with your help for this matter.

FINDING THE RIGHT NOTE

In it's 900 - year history, All Saints Church at Beeston Regis has overcome many trials and tribulations, the latest of which is a very minor irritation causing a very large problem - sand in the organ valves.

Needless to say, this causes some consternation to both our organist and our congregation, as there is no telling when an "off" note will occur, and in order to raise funds for necessary repairs, we are very grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Baker for hosting a very successful coffee morning, thereby getting our Organ Fund off to a flying start. Since then, fund-raising has gathered momentum, and it will not be long before All Saints is once again in tune with its congregation, Hopefully for another 900 years.
