BEAVERS LOG

Sheringham Beavers have just returned from a fantastic day out at Pleasurewood Hills.  This was a Beavers 20th Birthday celebration involving beavers (and leaders & parent helpers) from all over Norfolk & Suffolk.  Those Beavers who attended received a special commemorative woggle and badge - and moreover, had a wonderful day out in gloriously sunny weather. Grey Beaver (Sheringham Beaver Leader) would like to thank the beavers and helpers who came.  This event came at the end of a busy few weeks, with activities at the Scout Hut and visits out and about.

A fun evening was spent designing and constructing 'flying machines', each team assisted by a parent helper, finishing with a flying competition and a number of planes stranded in trees & hedges.  For badge work we've been covering personal hygiene/responsibilities and emergency services contact procedures.  Thankfully a sunny day allowed us a pleasant nature ramble through Roman Camp, counting how many different textures we could find before concluding with a half hour of ball games and races.

Sheringham Primary School kindly allowed us to use their sports field for a very successful mini Sports Day.  Dodging the showers, we had a great variety of team games including the traditional 3 legged race, egg & spoon and wheelbarow races!

In the coming weeks we'll be making model ships and racing them at the Boating Lake; going on a beach treasure hunt and aiming to achieve swimming badges at Greshams School pool.

We currently have some spaces available so anyone who would like to join Sheringham Beavers should contact Jane Burghall on 825644 for membership information.  Beavers is for boys and girls aged 6 to 8 - younger children can join the waiting list, older ones are eligible for Cubs or Scouts.  Jane also handles membership enquiries for all sections of Sheringham and Beeston Regis Sea Scout Group.

READERS LETTER

Sheringham is an expensive place to live, let alone shop!  Having Tesco or a larger foodstore in Sheringham would benefit us all vastly in so many ways.

It would mean that you wouldn't have to travel a distance, like to Cromer, Fakenham or Dereham to name a few.  I personally rely on public transport so travelling to any of these with a weeks shopping isn't an easy journey.  It would also open up plenty of job opportunities.  Giving students and parents jobs closer to home, not to mention those who tend to hold more than one job at a time.

The car park is another thing I think would take the interest of many locals; they offer up to 3 hours parking.  Just enough time to do the weekly shop and time enough to get all your favourites from town.

My final points are that if Tesco was to be built on Cromer Road, it would not only be even more accessible, but it would mean that the community centre and the fire station would be rebuilt and re-located to a more suitable site.  In the case of the fire station, I believe it is being built to the firemen's preference.  All of which are long overdue and must deserve it in the eyes of all.
