BEAVERS LOG
It's been a busy month for Sheringham Beavers, with many fun summer
activities. Having spent an evening constructing our fleet of model boats, the
following week saw us gathered in anticipation at the boating lake up on the Prom.
On a day full of promise and reasonable wind, we took to the water. Catastrophe -
the wind subsided to a very limited breeze! Our flotilla sat patiently, bobbing
gently and eventually made it across the lake, aided by much splashing and blowing from
some enthusiastic Beavers!
Our 'Bring A Friend' night proved extremely successful with turnout boosted around 100%.
The evening was spent at the Hut playing numerous team games under the watchful eye
of Supreme Beaver. Many of our guests have continued to attend and will hopefully
become fully fledged Beavers next term.
The sun made a welcome appearance for our Beach Hunt as the colony scoured the beach
searching for unusual objects, of which a great variety were found. In addition to
the Beevers enjoying some exercise, the beach to the west of the lifeboat station now has
fewer dubious 'treasures'. Mysteriously Grey Beaver asked that each Beaver retain
their bag of booty as it will be put to some use during the Beavers Autumn programme!
Our Swim Night at Gresham's pool was very well attended with everyone gaining an ASA badge
after proving their abilities in Water Skills. This covered a wide range of tasks
from star floats and push 'n' glides to water rolls and basic swimming strokes. The
Beavers then had time for a great splash about whilst more experienced swimmers earned
their Beavers Stage 2 swimming badge.
In the coming weeks we'll be battling the forces of nature with our annual Tide Fight -
will last years superb construction be surpassed? Look out for the next report! Our
Summer Programme will be rounded off with a BBQ and outdoor activity evening - all we know
is a towel is needed as you will get wet! The Beaver section is planning to join
forces with the Cubs & Scouts to enter the Carnival - give us a big cheer when we pass
by.
We currently have some spaces available so anyone who would like to join Sheringham
Beavers should contact Jane Burghall on 825644 for membership information. Beavers
is for boys and girls aged 6 to 8 - younger children can join the waiting list, older ones
are eligible for Cubs or Scouts. Jane also handles membership enquiries for all
sections of Sheringham and Beeston Regis Sea Scout Group.
As this is the last report before our summer break, Grey Beaver and the team would like to
wish all Beavers and families a happy holiday.
