Strawberry Custard Meringue
3 eggs, Separated
175g (6oz) Caster Sugar
1/2 tsp White Wine Vinegar
75g (3oz) Ground Hazelnuts
Filling and Topping
1 1/2 tbsp Custard Powder
1 tbsp Sugar
300ml (1/2 pint) Milk
350g (12oz) Strawberries, hulled and halved
284ml (1/2 pint) Pot of Double Cream, whipped
Preheat oven to 190c / 375 F / Gas 5.
Line 2 baking sheets with non-stick baking paper, draw a 20cm (8 in) circle on each.
In a large bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff but not dry. Gradually whisk in
the sugar. Whisk until very stiff and shiny. Whisk in the vinegar. Fold in the
ground hazelnuts.
Divide the meringue equally between the circles on the baking sheets and spread evenly.
Bake for 35 - 40 minutes, or until crisp on the outside. Swap the baking sheets
halfway through to ensure even cooking.
Ease the meringues off the paper and leave on a wire rack to cool completely.
Mix the custard powder, sugar and remaining milk until boiling. Pour onto the
custard and stir well. Return to the pan. Cool for 1 - 2 minutes, stirring until
thick.
Beat a little custard into the egg yolks. Return to the pan and heat gently,
stirring constantly, for 1 - 2 minutes to cook yolks. Remove from the heat, cover
with wet greaseproof paper and leave until cold.
Invert one if the meringues onto a large serving plate. Spoon over the custard.
Top with half of the strawberries, two thirds of the cream and the remaining
meringue.
Decorate with the rest of the strawberries and cream.

TESCO INTIMIDATION
Re. Richard Batson's report (EDP July 17th) where, I quote, Ms Mildmay
countered the allegations of intimidation saying, "That's not our style" etc.
not my experience!
On Saturday 15th july I was asked by BBC TV Look East if I would give my views for wanting
a Tesco store. Whilst being interviewed a woman in an orange top rudely interrupted
this (I have no idea who she is). She began shouting at me, telling me that I did
not want a Tesco store and much more, wagging her finger in a threatening way at me, as
seen on TV. This was not only rude and lacking in respect it was INTIMIDATION!!
Since the 1971 Census to the mid 2004 year estimate the combined population of Sheringham,
Upper Sheringham and Beeston Regis has grown from 5793 to 8490, an increase of 2697 or
46.55%. during this time the International stopped trading. Shopping facilities are
totally inadequate; they lack choice, often products and the price of just a few items can
add £'s to a food bill.
There are a lot of people who would like a Tesco store, but I can only speak for myself,
so I would advise them to write to The Head of Planning at North Norfolk District Council
to express their views and make themselves heard.

MEET WITH FRIENDS
Volunteer befrienders are an integral part of our community; they make a
difference to people's lives, people who are often lonely, socially isolated or
vulnerable.
Local organisations and North Walsham Area Partnership have come together to recognise,
reward and recruit local volunteer befrienders by hosting a 'Meet with Friends' event.
Funding for the event has been provided from Adult Education's project Rural
Norfolk Learning Links whose aim is to provide training opportunities to paid employees or
volunteers in and around the market towns of Norfolk.
We are calling on local business, public and voluntary sectors to share this day with us
and join us for refreshments, entertainment and information.
