POTTY SEASON STARTS

The Lobster Potties are looking forward to another busy season starting on the 15th February.   The Potties head off to Wanna, near Ottendorf in Germany. Having enjoyed our Potty Festival weekend, the dancers were keen to invite us back to their own festival - we'll let you know what it was like!

This year is the 10th anniversary of our Morris Dance Festival. As well as the usual dancing in the streets and music in the pubs, we've hired the Little Theatre for a folk concert on the Saturday night. So put these dates in your dairy - Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July 2003. The Potties like to dance out, to raise money for local causes and this year we will be donating £400 in total to be shared between the Air Ambulance, The Museum Trust, Sheringham in Bloom and The Christmas Lights.

2002 was a difficult year for the Lobster Potties as we had to change our dance practice night which affected our recruitment. However, the good news is that the Potties are returning home to the Lobster pub where they started in 1986.  So, whether you're single, married, male or female, and would like to keep fit whilst having fun, then why not come along and join us each Tuesday at the Lobster at 7.30pm.

We also welcome anyone who can play a musical instrument.  To find out more call Clive or Hillary on 822302.

Isla St. Clair & The Sheringham Shantymen

Saturday marked the beginning of a major project for The Sheringham Shantymen. Isla St. Clair came to St. Peters Church to perform with the local group in order to raise the initial cash for the Sheringham Lifeboat Fund which will be used to purchase a new inshore lifeboat for the R.N.L.I. The boat will be named The Sheringham Shantymen and will go into service somewhere in the British Isles in a few year's time.

Isla St. Clair is an old friend of the Shantymen. A similar concert was performed last year with the proceeds going into the R.N.L.I. general fund. This new project made the concert even more special and Isla will continue to help in the future as and when she is able.

Approximately three hundred people were at the concert coming not only from Sheringham, or even Norfolk, but from as far away as Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. One couple even made the journey from Sussex to see and hear their favourite performers.

A spokesman for the Shantymen said they were overwhelmed by the support that Sheringham people have shown to the group and, as always, to the R.N.L.I. in it's vital work along these coasts. St. Peters Church has always been so co-operative to the Shantymen and are allowing them to use the excellent building, with it's wonderful acoustics to record their new CD for the R.N.L.I.
