Storysacks
Have your grandchildren pleaded with you not to knit another Christmas jumper for them? Bored now? Sheringham Nursery School needs your skills to make soft toys for Storysacks. It's a fabulous way of getting young children interested in reading books and that's always a good thing isn't it?

A Storysack is a large cloth bag containing a good quality young child's picture book with supporting materials to stimulate reading activities. To bring the book to life, soft toys of the main characters, artefacts relating to items in the story, a non-fiction book relating to the theme, an audio tape and a language game based on the book are included. Additionally, a card of ideas is inserted suggesting to parents and teachers ways they may develop listening, reading and writing skills using the contents of the Storysack. Storysacks costs about £80 to buy, but a handmade storysack is half the price!

This is where you come in. All the storysacks need soft toys, either knitted, made of felt or fabric, in puppet form or masks. If you would like to make a soft toy that's fantastic, alternatively any off-cuts of fabric or wool would be appreciated. We need artefacts too.

Handmade Storysacks still cost around £40 to make and we need local companies to sponsor them. So far The Iron Lady, AB Catering, Cromer Grill, Harveys along with several others have sponsored a storysack, but we need more help. So go on, do your bit to get local young children interested in reading books, and get involved in helping to create a storysack.

If you are interested in making a soft toy or donating artefacts please contact Liz on 825561, alternatively any companies wishing to help sponsor a Storysack contact Lisa on 820229.
